I’m new here. I’ve been a fan of belly dance since I was eight years old. I actually think it started with a five day deodorant commercial that aired in the afternoons. The dancer, that is, her body movements were hypnotic. I was hooked and still am hooked! I have spent long evenings watching performances and competitions in restaurants. I’ve indulged in full-weekend events in northern New Jersey Rakkasha East. Lately, I’ve watched many videos on-line, some on YouTube others on dancer’s professional web sites. I’m hooked! I love watching raqs sharqi.
I’m a guy. I have a permanent, physical disability, so learning to belly dance doesn’t seem like an option; unless I could take online classes. Would that be an option with you as my teacher? I have a favorite dancer she is Sadie Marquardt (http://www.sadiebellydancer.com/). She is trim, toned, ripped talented and personable. A truly beautiful lady!
Lately, I’ve been wondering, is there some way I can get more involved in raqs sharqi? Can I learn songs? Write performance reviews? Promote performances and events? Can guys learn to belly dance? If so, where can they learn? I will welcome any and all suggestions. I’m very interested in all comments.
