11:30 am – 1:00 pm – “Rhythm & Movement: 3 Combos in 3 Rhythms”
Explore 3 of the most common Middle Eastern rhythms – Beladi,, Chiftitelli and Masmoudi Kabir through combinations that reflect their rhythmic structure and mood. Earthy curves, dramatic energy, sensuous style and gorgeous lines – these combos have lots to offer! Knowledge of basic bellydance movement vocabulary is expected. Style specific movements and variations will be broken down & drilled.

1:15 pm – 2:45 pm – “In the Ears, Out the Hips: Skills & Strategies for Drum Solos”  with Live Drumming  by Greg Ezra
Whether you are choreographing a drum solo to recorded music or doing improvisation with live drumming, the process is the same.  Learn to translate the sounds, rhythms and riffs of the drum into articulate movement that will wow your audience! We will be working with a drummer in this very special and exciting class!

A complete breakdown of a variety of 3/4 walking shimmies that will add a whole new level of cool complexity to your drum solos and travelling. Learn how to analyze and progressively approach  any 3/4 walking shimmy without frustration. We will also cover layering, time permitting.


3:00 PM – 4:00 PM – “Juicy Beladi Combos”
Beladi is the wonderfully earthy home-style dance of rural Egypt. We’ll explore some of the important concepts of this style through combinations that capture it’s musicality and expression.

7:00 PM – 8:30 PM – “Line & Design: An Artistic Approach to Bellydance Choreography”
Every moment of your dance performance lives as an image in your audience’s mind – make it an artful one. We’ll use design concepts from art and apply them to how we use our arms, how we move within our space and how an ensemble can effectively create beautiful collective shapes. These are valuable concepts for cabaret, tribal or fusion dancers alike!

From folklore to the glamour of the stage, this workshop covers skills, cultural context and combinations for both the iconic Saidi style from Upper Egypt and the elegant, quintessentially feminine style of stars such as Samia Gamal,  Tahia Carioca and Souheir Zaki.  Style-specific skills and movements will be thoroughly broken down and drilled.  Bring a cane.

Satisfy you craving for variety in this ecclectic workshop! We’ll spend 30 minutes on each combo.
1. Elegant & classic Egyptian style combo in Masmoudi Kabir rhythm.
2. Earthy Beladi-style combo with zills (optional).
3. Folksy Saidi style combo with cane
4. Mysterious veil combo in Chiftitelli rhythm.
Bring a veil, cane and zills if you want them. Some loaners will be available for those pre-registered.
